Hello All,

This Dec. 17 and 18 we will be participating in our first Renegade Craft Fair.  Diana and I will both have a lot of new work, and will be sharing the booth with our friends Kajan Padraig (www.kajanpadraig.com).  The fair will be 11-6 on both days and will be located at the Concourse Exhibition Center (Brannon St. between 7th and 8th St.).

Hopefully we will see you there,

Starting this Friday, Diana Ruiz will be involved in a group show at Big Umbrella Gallery called “Off the Runway” Here is the description from the gallery:

Some fashion has been described as “Wearable Art”. But what happens when what is wearable BECOMES art? We proudly invite you to the opening reception for “Off The Runway”, a fashion art show where the materials normally reserved for Fashion, are used for fine arts purposes, and where materials, normally used for fine arts, are used for FASHION! Ever seen a dress made from telephone wires? How about a yarn egg nest? No? I didn’t think so. So come experience something you might not have. As well, there will be traditional artist renderings of clothing in it’s natural state and in not so natural states. Regardless, this show will be all about what happens when you take all your clothing, off…

“Off The Runway” that is!

Hopefully we will see you there, in the meantime, attached are some snapshots of some of the work.

Coming up this weekend (April 15,16 and 17) is the latest Spring Open Studios, put on by Mission Artists United.  http://www.missionartistsunited.org/main/openstudios There are open studios throughout the Mission District all weekend, check out the guide (http://www.missionartistsunited.org/catalog/spring2011/mau_spring_2011_guide_color.pdf) to see all of the places that are open.

We will be participating as one of the artists in the Blue Studio.  We are located at 2111 Mission Street, 3rd Floor (The Blue Studio is on both the third and fourth floors and a map of the building should be handed to you when you come in the building)  We will have a reception on Friday night between 6-9, will have live music and refreshments, and will also be open Saturday and Sunday between 11-6.  There are going to be about 30 artists with their studios open, and there are some quality artists in the building.  We hope to see you there.

In addition, there is currently an accompanying show to the open studios at Flax Art and Design:

Juried Spring Open Studios Preview Show
Flax Art & Design, 1699 Market St @ Valencia
April 1 – May 1, 2011

Diana and I each have a piece in the show.

We also began the process of updating the website to show our work from the end of 2010 and 2011 – below is our main installation from the Linear Empires show at White Walls Gallery from earlier this year:

Hey all, hope you had a good new year.

I wanted to let you know about an art show coming up for Diana and I. We will have about 13 pieces in the show (10 of them in a larger installation) and it is our first substantial gallery show. The show is called Linear Empires (http://www.whitewallssf.com/media/events/pdfs/linear-empires.pdf) at White Walls gallery here in San Francisco, and there will be some very interesting and architectural art(ists) there. We have seen some of the others in shows before and feel lucky to be involved.

Hopefully you can make it to the opening, or stop by in the subsequent month when you have a chance as this is a big step for us.

In the meantime, check out some preview images of some of the work we will be showing:

We will be participating in a holiday sale with other artists in the Blue Studio as well as additional artists and crafters from the area.  It will be held on Sunday, December 12, between noon and 6PM.  Generally there will be smaller scale (inexpensive) work from all of the artists for gifts for others or yourself.  The Blue Studio is located at 2111 Mission st., 94110 (near 17th Street), and all of the artists will set up in the Michelle O’Connor Gallery on the 4th Floor.

We will have a couple pieces in the annual winter group show at White Walls Gallery (http://www.whitewallssf.com).  The gallery is located at 835 Larkin street, near Geary St.  This is particularly exciting for us to be a part of a gallery that we have come to for years as spectators.  The opening for the show is on Saturday, December 11, between 7PM and 11PM and it will be there for about a month.  There will be a lot of amazing artists in the show (the gallery should be posting a list shortly), and in the gallery next door (The Shooting Gallery) there will be an opening as well.

We have a new installation of our work at Propeller Modern (www.propellermodern.com).  Propeller is a modern furniture/art/item store on Hayes St., between Laguna St., and Octavia St.  We will have about 40 pieces up on the walls for the Holidays.  This is another one of those stores with a lot of amazing design, and we are very happy to be included.  Definitely stop by if you get a chance.

Coming up this weekend (October 8, 9, 10) is the latest Fall Open Studios, put on by Artspan.  http://www.artspan.org/sf-open-studios They will be having open studios in different sections of town for the next four weeks, and the upcoming week includes all of the Mission Artists.

We will be participating as one of the artists in the Blue Studio.  We are located at 2111 Mission Street, 3rd Floor (The Blue Studio is on both the third and fourth floors and a map of the building should be handed to you when you come in the building)  We will have a reception on Friday night between 6-9, will have live music and refreshments, and will also be open Saturday and Sunday between 12-5.  There are going to be about 20 artists with their studios open, and there are some quality artists in the building.  We hope to see you there.

We have a new installation of our work and studio at Zinc Details (www.zincdetails.com)  Zinc Details is a modern furniture and accessory store On California Street, near Fillmore.  This is one of those stores where we want almost everything, and it’s odd thinking our work is there.  Anyway, definitely stop by and check it out.

Here are some close-up examples of what is there:

Here is our new blog and our new website, it is a lot more comprehensive, and will be much easier for us to keep updated.  Many thanks to Ryan Grossman, who helped us with the design, and was able to customize a WordPress theme (Organic Themes) to fit our needs.  We quickly realized it is much tougher to create a somewhat minimal site as opposed to a very dense one with a lot of stuff.  Also, make sure to check out Ryan’s website (www.ryangrossman.com) and check out his impressive oil paintings and design work.

Make sure to check back in this space for posts about upcoming shows and installations as we have a lot of things coming up…..
